Do I accept Insurance?
No, since we are not a physician in the state of NY, I can not accept insurance and insurance will not cover my services at this time. However we ( as a profession) are in the process of seeking licensure which may mean that if the law does get passed, insurance may begin to cover our services. If you would like to support our licensure effort please write your legislator. At our State Association website (www.nyanp.org) there is a tool you can use that will help you to mail write your letter and will automatically all legislators pertinent to you.
How does Naturopathic Medicine work?
Naturopathic Medicine supports and promotes the bodys natural healing process, leading to a persons highest state of well being. By addressing the cause of the disease, and individualizing treatment that integrates the healing power of the body, mind and spirit, health can be restored, optimized and maintained.
What is the difference between naturopathy and homeopathy?
Naturopathy encompasses the entire spectrum of natural medicine, of which homeopathy is just one part. Homeopathy is a system which uses extremely small doses of natural substances to stimulate the bodies own healing abilities, and thus is based on many of the same principles as naturopathy --- treating the cause, treating the whole person, doing no harm, and using the healing powers of nature. Homeopathy is part of the foundation of naturopathic medicine, yet it may be taught and practiced by itself and by healthcare practitioners that are not naturopathic doctors.
How is Naturopathic Medicine different from conventional medicine?
The main difference is in philosophical approach. Doctors of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) help people by restoring overall health rather than suppressing a few key symptoms. NDs are more concerned with finding the underlying cause of a condition and applying treatments that work in alliance with the natural healing mechanism of the body rather than against it. Naturopathic treatments result less frequently in adverse side effects, or in chronic conditions that arise when the cause of a disease is left untreated. ND take more time with a patient and take a more comprehensive approach to helping the individual.
Who can benefit from Naturopathic Medicine
People of all ages and conditions, such as pregnant woman, newborns, children, adults, and /or elderly. Terminally ill people can also benefit from naturopathic medicine, especially because of its whole person approach.
Are there conditions that conventional medicine can not help but naturopathy can?
Yes, some of them are, but not limited to, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, recurrent ear infections and acute viral infections, such as colds and flus.
Are Naturopathic Doctors opposed to drugs and surgery?
No, NDs are not opposed to invasive or suppressive measures when they are deemed necessary. We make referrals to such treatments when appropriate.
Is Naturopathic Medicine cost effective?
Yes, This is because naturopathic medicine is based in a preventative philosophy. This approach reduces the incidence of high-cost chronic conditions and can reduce both immediate and long term health cost.
How long will it take to get better?
Naturopathic Medicine primarily supports the bodies innate ability to heal and seeks to find the underlying cause of a condition. Therefore it is difficult to say how long it can take for one to get better. Generally most people will start feel better in the first month, however it may take time to completely feel better depending on you and your bodies ability to heal. It is important to remember that for chronic conditions you did not reach your current state of health overnight and it will take time to completely heal your body.
Can I diagnose and treat your condition in the state of NY?
No, although I am trained to diagnose through physical exams and lab reports. I can NOT diagnose in NY until this state recognizes us as a distinct profession of physicians. This means I can not order labs or perform physical exams on you at this time.
